Baiia

In late 2016, Amber (the mastermind behind @theconsciouscut) launched a swimwear brand called Baiia Label, and I was hooked from the moment it was launched. I’ve always had HUGE trouble finding a bikini tha fits my body, holds my boobs in place whilst in the ocean (gals with big boob troubles I’m sure you know what I’m talking about) and looks like it was made for someone who isn’t sixty. Amber not only created a product I loved, but she was kind enough to get my measurements and custom make one to fit me. I’m proud to say Baiia was my first ever ethical fashion purchase, and I’m INLOVE.

Baiia stands for ‘one who has the capacity to change the world for the better’ and I can’t help but feel it couldn’t be more fitting.  It’s a label that is surrounded by the idea of creating versatile swimwear for the woman of tomorrow. The bikinis are made using recycled plastic that would otherwise be polluting our precious land and ocean. As Amber puts it “some just want a better bikini bod. We just want a better world.”

According to Plastic Pollution, in 2018 there will be more than 300 million tonnes of plastic produced worldwide. With Baiia, they focus on reusing the plastic that is already in the world to make something that is versatile, sustainable, and durable. Instead of using virgin polyester in their swimwear, they use recycled polyester which means it has a 90% lower carbon footprint.

The fabric is certified Standard 100 by Oeko-Tex, who is the world’s leader in testing fabrics to regulate harmful substances. Their dyes are water based and have achieved accreditation to the Global Organic Textiles Standards (GOTS), OEKO-TEX® and CLEAR TO WEAR certification. Why waterbased inks? They’ve proven to be a much more eco-friendly option in comparison to the usual Plastisol inks which contain PVC and phthalates that are harmful to the environment as well as being linked to numerous medical disorders.

On top of all this good stuff, Baiia also donates 10% of profits evenly between More than Me a charity that provides education for girls and women in underprivileged communities and Cool Earth a charity that helps preserve rainforests around the world.

Plus, the thing I love the most, is that this bikini is 4 in one! It’s reversible, and mix and match which means that essentially for the price of one bikini you are actually getting four.
SAVING $$$ AND THE PLANET, CAN I GET A HELL YEAH?!
